Monte Plata
In partnership with ADESOL-Dominican Republic and Cotedo, and with financial assistance from USAID under their hurricane George reconstruction program, Enersol was able to bring to Monte Plata:
- Solar-powered water pumping stations in 4 communities;
- A manual hand pump to one additional community;
- Improved latrines to 7 schools;
- 150 individual residential latrines, built with the assistance of local residents and Cotedo staff; and
- 10 oral re-hydration therapy sites, to reduce the number of children dying
from diarrhea and its resulting dehydration.
In addition:
- 18 local residents were trained as community health promoters;
- Over 150 families were trained in hygiene and sanitation; and
- 20 water and health care committees were organized.
