Arroyo Seco
Enersol and ADESOL's first water delivery project, serving about 175 people, demonstrated that solar electricity, or photovoltaics (PV), could effectively and efficiently deliver clean water to those living in rural areas of the Dominican Republic. In contrast to normal water delivery policy, cost-recovery was incorporated as a requirement for project sustainability.
In 1999, the electrical grid was extended to Arroyo Seco, and a standard grid-connected AC pump installed. ADESOL was able to move the solar panels and pump no longer needed in Arroyo Seco to another location, expanding Enersol's reach. This demonstrates the unique strength of the solar system that it is modular and movable.
